How to Set up and Use Guest Mode on Chromecast

Most streaming devices have an optional Guest mode which allows others to use the device with some restrictions. Google Chromecast is not an exception; it also has a Guest mode. It allows your friend or any family member’s smartphone to cast the content to Chromecast without connecting to the home network. How to Set up Guest Mode with Chromecast

Only the host can set up the Guest mode in Chromecast. If you set up the Guest mode, any user can cast their content on your Chromecast. To set up the Guest mode, you need the Google Home app. If you don’t have the app, install it from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.

Quick Guide: On your smartphone, launch the Google Home app > Pick your Chromecast > Click Settings > Select Guest Mode > Turn on and note down the Pin.

Step1: Open the Google Home app on your smartphone.

Step2: Click on your Chromecast device.

Step3: On the next screen, click the Settings icon at the top of the screen.

Step4: Scroll down and click on Guest Mode.

Step5: Click on the Guest Mode toggle button to turn it on.

Step6: Make sure to note down the four-digit PIN. You will need to provide your guests to connect with your Chromecast device.

How to Cast in Guest Mode

In the Guest mode, one can cast to Chromecast without connecting to the same Wi-Fi network. The casting smartphone must have an internet connection to cast in the Guest Mode.

Step1: Open any of the Chromecast-supported apps and click on the Cast icon.

Step2: Your smartphone will look for a nearby Chromecast device. Click on it to cast.

Step3: When a nearby device tries to cast to Chromecast, the Chromecast automatically sends the Guest Mode PIN. If it fails, you need to enter the pin manually.

Step4: When the PIN verification is done, play any video. It will be cast to your Chromecast.

NOTE: You can find the PIN on the ambient screen or in the Google Home app.

Step5: If you want to stop the casting process, click the Cast icon and choose to Stop Casting.

The Guest Mode allows others to use Chromecast. By setting up the Guest Mode, your friends can easily cast their videos onto your Chromecast.

Why can’t I use Guest Mode on Chromecast?

• If you can’t enable guest mode, restart the Chromecast device and try again.
• If the guest’s phone and Chromecast device are not connecting, make sure to keep the mobile device and Chromecast nearby.
• Also, check whether you have entered the correct pib display on your Chromecast-connected TV screen.
