How to Sideload WhatsApp on Google TV
[1] On the home screen of Google TV, click on the Search menu.
[2] Using the Google assistant enable remote, type Downloader.
[3] Select the Downloader icon from the suggestion list and click on Install.
[4] Once installed, get back to settings and enable Unknown sources for Downloader.
Settings >> Apps >> Security & Restrictions >> Unknown sources >> Downloader >> Turn on Toggle
[5] Now launch the Downloader and enter the WhatsApp apk URL in the URL tab (https://bit.ly/2MjNoG9).
[6] Click on Go to download and install the WhatsApp on your device.
[7] After installation, click on Open to launch the WhatsApp.
[8] Login with your Mobile number and start using WhatsApp.
Note: Make sure the mobile number provided is not in use on any other device.
Alternative method
- Instead of sideloading, you can cast WhatsApp from your smartphone or PC to the Google TV device. While casting, you can view the video call on your big TV screen by placing the smartphone in front of your Google TV device.
- If you are using WhatsApp only for video calling, then you should also check out Skype on your Google TV device, which is an even more flexible and dedicated application for video calling/conferencing.
